Los Vaqueros Stockyards
Directions: Phone: (817) 624-1511 Hours of Operation: Shortly after the turn of the century, D. Hart and Sons Livestock Company purchased most of the block bounded by Main Street, N. W. 27th, N. W. 26th, and Ellis Avenue. Here, they operated as independent competitors to the Stockyards Company, and built the L-plan building at 2629 N. Main. It was never used for its original purpose as a livestock packing house because D. Hart was never able to begin operations. In 1926, the building was leased to the Fort Worth Stock Yards Company and was used as a barn and warehouse. It later housed the Braziel Refrigeration Company. The structure lies within the Stockyards National Register Historic District. Los Vaqueros opened for business in the D. Hart building in August of 1996 after a year of painstaking renovation and restoration. The restaurant’s interior is finished out with a large amount of original building materials, including the original roof structure. The restored facility retains the look and style of buildings from the early Stockyards era and a new visitor cannot help be amazed at its sheer size and authenticity. It is one of the largest Mexican restaurants in the state of Texas. On October 10, 1996, the North Fort Worth Historical Society honored the Cisneros family by awarding them the coveted Community Pride Award “in recognition of significant contributions toward the preservation of their rich heritage through the revitalization of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.” Los Vaqueros West Has Moved!
